Are Ragdolls good with children?
Ragdolls are very gentle and wonderful with children as long as they have been raised correctly and are well socialised, preferably inside a family home.
Will a Ragdoll get on with my other pets?
Ragdolls are a very social, friendly breed and most definitely will get along fine with your existing pets provided you introduce and socialise them correctly on first meeting.
Temperamentwise, which is best……Male or Female?
From our point of view we find no real difference between males and females and the decision is purely what we consider a personal choice for you to decide. Both are truly wonderful companions and we feel very strongly that what ever your decision, you will get back whatever you put in as to the bond that you and your cat will develop. Every kitten /cat has a very unique personality but overall they are both lovely and it would be very hard for us to choose one sex over the other !
Should I get ONE Ragdoll or TWO?
We leave this decision up to you as it does not really matter if you acquire one or two. Ragdolls are very adaptable and will be fine as an ‘only cat’ and/ or cope just as well in a ‘multi cat’ environment. Provided they are kept indoors with plenty of toys to occupy them and are never neglected when you are at home, it does not really matter. This is purely a personal choice for you and your family to decide.
What about house training and my Ragdoll?
All of our kittens are born and raised inside our home with our family and so are already fully house trained by the time you come to collect him /her.
How big will my Ragdoll grow?
Ragdoll males can reach approximately 10 kilos and females can reach up to 7 kilos.
Will my Ragdoll shed his /her hair?
Ragdolls do shed hair which is especially noticeable with the change of seasons - a good grooming routine will alleviate any problems of hair around the home.
Does the Ragdoll coat matt?
Ragdolls have very easily managed coats but they do require regular grooming to keep them in tip top shape. If their coat is disregarded knots can appear.
What do I feed my Ragdoll?
We provide information regarding this when you come to collect your kitten.
I`ve heard that the Ragdoll breed is great for allergy sufferers …. is this true?
The Ragdoll has hair that some refer to as ‘rabbit like’ but they are not a breed renowned to be safe for allergy sufferers or hypo allergenic. They are after all still a ‘cat’ and whilst their coat is a little different in texture from other breeds, our advice would be to spend time with some Ragdolls first to see how they affect your allergies. You may want to visit a local cat show or animal shelter- we can also arrange to meet you at a Cat Show should you wish.
I don`t want my kitten to come desexed….. will you sell one to me not desexed?
Unfortunately, the answer is no as we are believers in responsible pet ownership and will only sell entire cats /kittens to approved registered breeders.
I`m worried about “early desexing”….. is this safe for my Ragdoll?
Early desexing is safe when done by an experienced Vet. We find that kittens are up and around the same evening if not the very next day like nothing has happened at all. We would never jeopardise the health and/ or safety of our Ragdolls and have absolute faith in our wonderful Veterinarian who loves our Ragdolls as much as we do.
Are your Ragdoll stud cats available to hire for breeding with our girl?
Unfortunately no as we are a closed cattery and therefore we do no not allow our boys to be mated with cats from other catteries.
Why are Ragdolls priced so differently from breeder to breeder?
As with anything in life, you do get what you pay for and so the same principles also apply when purchasing a Ragdoll.
Prices do and can vary between breeders because of many factors like the quality of the kitten you may be purchasing and also inclusions that come with your kitten. Vaccinations, microchipping and desexing are quite expensive procedures as is also the cost of maintaining healthy breeding stock throughout the year - breeding stock that will produce those healthy kittens that you will be wanting to choose from.
You shouldn`t be expecting to pay too cheap a price as it costs alot of time and money to raise a healthy kitten right up until the time you come to collect him /her. In our specific case, our prices are set because we do not cut any corners or scrimp on the care and wellbeing of our cats in any way or at any time. Please consider these factors when making your decision afterall, a lifetime of happiness with a kitten that comes complete with all of the necessary assurances is priceless !
I haven`t seen a Ragdoll in the flesh so to speak - can I come over and just look to see if they are the right breed for me……
As we are a home based cattery, unfortunately for security reasons, we can not allow every curious person to just come and visit our home. We do however attend numerous Cat Shows throughout the year and would be more than willing to meet up and let you meet with our cats on a one to one basis, as well as discuss any concerns or questions about the breed that you may have. We are also more than happy to discuss the breed via telephone or email at your convenience. Further information about visiting us at our home is on our Inspections page.
I don`t really want to wait for a kitten….I want him /her now or on a specific day ……..
We hear this quite a bit from people because of our small waiting list and really can not stress enough how important it is not to rush into buying a kitten. It is so much better for you to be able to purchase with confidence from a registered and reputable breeder that offers kittens with guarantees on temperament and health, rather than buying a kitten with no such guarantees on the spur of the moment
If you really can not wait for the right kitten, please contact us as we may be able to provide you with details of a reputable and registerered breeder, who may be able to assist with your enquiries further.
I purchased a kitten elsewhere and was wondering if you can offer advice to me about my kitten and /or problem?
Unfortunately, it is not really ethical for us to comment or advise you on a kitten you purchased elsewhere and we would not really like to interfere on another persons breeding program. We would suggest that you follow up your concerns with the breeder or whomever /wherever you purchased your kitten from as they will be in a much better position to help you.
I live interstate / overseas….is it possible to acquire one of your kittens and how will he /she cope during the journey?
We can send kittens to most places throughout the world with no complications encountered. Our kittens travel with Qantas and in most cases travel is stress free. Prior to the sending of your kitten we do our very best to ensure that your kitten is prepared for his /her flight.
Now that I have my SugarNspice kitten, where do I go if I need advice?
You are more than welcome to contact us at any time or at any stage of your kitten /cats` development - in fact we encourage it !
